Subject: RE: On crop insurance..

n. Illinois
the comment about insuring a profit via crop insurance. That is the issue in that one phrase. The original crop insurance was designed to get you back your costs on a per acre basis not to guarantee a profit. The revenue component that was rolled out in the 1990's changed the nature of crop insurance as it went from hardley used in the corn belt to everyone has it. Its actually hard to find someone today that doesn't carry it. I know of no other insurance product that will make you money in a claim like crop insurance can do. Maybe the smart folks in DC (opps what a mistake) can think up a way to get back to just protecting your costs and get the insurance cheaper for everyone. Or maybe the Feds should just cut out all subsidizes for it and let the private companies carry the risk just like they do now for the farm owners insurance policy that they write.
