Subject: RE: JD 920 Dial-a-matic troubleshooting

WC Franklin Co., In.
That chain is only for the 20 series machines. What combine? If it is a 9x00/9X10, I just went through this with my 920/9500. Mice like to get in the "tube" of the head where the wiring harness passes above the feederhouse. If you have a multimeter, ohm out the harness between the DAM box and the head connector that the combine harness plugs into. If all this checks out, pop the cover off the DAM on the lower RH side of the head and see what the contact pads and brushes look like. Check the contact pads under the head that run the rod leading into the DAM box and moving freely (under side of the head may be packed full of dust and dirt). If everything on the head looks OK, check continuity between the combine harness and the circuit board located behind the upper door on the combine as you are getting in the cab. Should be the very RH circuit board. Unplug the 6 pin connector and ohm out between there and the harness connector that plugs into the head. If that is OK, the raise and lower relays on the actual DAM circuit board are plug and play. Try swapped them for each other and see if the problem "follows" the relay.
