| I am not pro or against the electric semis.
If the government wants them they will come. Battery is to heavy? Electric truck allowed to gross another 5,000 pounds takes car of that.
I was checking it out a few years ago.
With the subsidies at that time, an electric truck wasn't anymore expensive than any other.
As for the charge time, the government has taken care of that.
Charging at a predictable time is more preferable than weeks of unforeseeable down time from emissions equipment.
At that time, electric would have worked for my farm hauling. I can haul 5 loads to the ethanol plant and it is less than 300 miles. Assuming the truck could recharge from regenerative braking this would be very doable.
Some of the further farms and destinations range may cut into the day, but 3 rounds of 120 miles is still only 360 miles. Some days I can get 4 and very rarely 5 now, but for hauling my own grain I could live with 3.
I would think garbage or drayage would be ideal for electric. Low miles and lots of starting and stopping to recharge the batteries. | |
