Wyoming | I did say "relatively easy," Ed. ;) I'm a big advocate of small-scale nuke reactors as a power source. I believe that we should take the approach of the US Navy: standardized on a reactor design, and then build it. Fuel it in the factory, deliver it to the deployment site, put it into a secured concrete bunker, connect it to the grid and control system(s) and let it run. Rather than huge, bespoke reactor designs, I advocate for smaller, regional to neighborhood level nukes, which then by spreading the generation across the grids, would reduce the need for wheeling huge amounts of power through long-distance transmission lines, and increase resilience to localized outages/disruptions. |
