Wisconsin | I doubt the tank ruptured, the incident would be over in an hour with more fatalities if that tank had ruptured. They said it leaked half the contents, so it obviously didn't rupture like older nurse tanks will occasionally do, usually launching hundreds of feet through whatever is in the way.
If the leak was below the liquid level, it would discharge liquid as fast as the hole would allow, I'm guessing this was a relatively small cracked line or broken valve that they were able to stop it with half the contents in still.
If the leak was above the liquid level, then the liquid would cool as it boiled away and vented the gas, that's a possibility also. I would think slightly less likely as the connections are mostly at the bottom, but if it rolled everything could be upside down. | |
