The big thing that brought the Reno Races to an end was the real estate development in Lemmon Valley. You could see it start in the '00's, when real estate in Nevada went nuts.
Planes whipping around a tight course at 200 to 500 MPH need a lot of room for emergencies, and now they don't have the room to have a plane come down in Lemmon Valley and not hit occupied real estate.
Reno Air Races, sad ending .
