south central IL | I live about 6-7 miles from where the accident happened. There is a construction zone on interstate 70 east of effingham Illinois where they have the east bound side completely closed and they’re running it as a two lane. There have been multiple accidents in this zone that have resulted in traffic being routed on to a two lane highway. This is what was going on when the accident happened. It has been said that a car passed multiple vehicles and the truck driver swerved to miss it and hit the ditch causing the tank to rupture, I have heard this multiple times but can’t confirm 100%. There was a family in a house near the accident and it is being said that they died from the ammonia. There were supposedly several people airlifted from the scene as well. This is coming from various sources and the details can and probably will change some as time goes on. Please keep the people in your prayers. thexradio.com has a local story.
