You said PT didn't help but it helped me a lot with my neck. There are 3 or 4 therapists at the place I went and only one really helped me with my neck. So you have to find the right one.

A big thing for me is to remember to relax my shoulders, when I am stressed out or have a lot of adrenaline flowing I tighten up my shoulder muscles almost like I am shrugging my shoulders. This tightens the muscles that run from my shoulder blades up through my neck and eventually cause a lot of pain and stiffness. I didn't even realize I was doing it but now that I am aware of it I am better at avoiding this and it has helped me a lot. She also gave me an exercise to do, stand with my back and the back of my head against a wall and push straight back with my head about a dozen times. Not tipping your chin up but push straight back.

These are more for prevention than a cure. I had to go in a few times and do exercises and therapy to loosen up my neck muscles, and then the two things I mentioned keep the pain away. It used to hurt every day and night.
