Subject: RE: Pivot Drops in Tall Corn?

Southeast Colorado
A lot of guys over in the edge of KS to my east started raising their drops up over the height of the corn. They still use drops...........just shorter ones. I don't have enough water quantity to lose any evaporation efficiency so I've left mine low. I do think part of the problem came from the old PVC pipe drops. They'd get hung up in the corn and then pull loose and swing forward 10 feet at a time. Rubber hoses work their way through the crop better. Nowadays most all of the pivots have rubber hoses.

And oh yah.............I do think 5 foot spacing is about as wide as one would want to go. Except on the first tower or two.........just to keep from over watering there.
