Subject: Deteriorated silo pit staves

western WI
I was wondering of thoughts on being able to fix this silo? The pit hadn't been emptied completely for 30 plus years until last year because it was always wet and plugged the unloader. Upon emptying it completely we found rotted out silo staves about 3 feet below ground. The silo has about a 5 feet pit, or two staves worth in ground. In the 60's my grandfather poured a 10" wide concrete curb about 18" deep around the exterior base of the silo probably because it was starting to get corroded then. Our consensus is to pressure wash the bottom staves and build up the center with crushed rock screenings and then fill the rest with cement and rebar essentially losing most of the pit. There is about 7 staves worth adjacent to an older silo where there is no block left at all from the footing to the next stave up.
