southern MN | I believe E25 to E30 is the sweet spot of most cost efficient blend to use in an engine designed for gasoline but can adjust some for ethanol content.
The ethanol has less btu, but it explodes on ignition more uniformly, at about 25-30% ethanol the more efficient burn makes up for the less btu content.
If designed to run on high % ethanol from the ground up an engine would be pretty efficient on e85, but then it would have trouble running on regular gas so that won’t happen here.
If you can find a blender pump or you are able to blend in yourself from the different offerings you might find E30 is your best bang for the buck in your engine.
