Ed Boysun - 9/27/2023 06:21 a square of 100 by 100 miles would produce enough juice to power the whole US

Maybe during the day anyway. Pretty sure I know how they'd perform overnight.

That's where wind generators come in as another leg on the stool, especially off shore (in Lake Superior, Lake Michigan or the Gulf). Wind usually blows at night, especially near large bodies of water.

Peak loads determine the grid capacity needed and those peaks are usually on hot sunny afternoons where solar is strong.

But wind also blows in the day, hence why wind is more reliable. Why have two systems when one has much more uptime? Besides solar belongs on every roof, in every city in the US before they put up a single more solar farm.
