Chebanse, IL..... | I didn't detect any boasting. I'm probably not that good at emotional interpretation.
On my last pass thru this field I ran out of N in the tank and then decided not to correct it. The strip is 6 rows wide and has full rate N on both sides. I had 27#N in my Broadcast N-P-K and about 25#N in the 2x2 and infurrow applications.
Screen shots from the yield monitor tell the story. Over 70BPA increase where the 50Gal of 28% plus 6GAL of ATS were applied.
Seems pretty straight talk to me.
I did comment that I'm not sure if OP was COC or followed a legume of sorts.
We use the U of IL/Iowa St nitrogen recommendations. They seem to base the use on the cost of N, price of corn, locale, and previous crop. 200# of applied N isn't unusual in this part of the country. Not sure how far the OP is from me.
Nitrogen Rate Calculator
If one is not familiar with using the N Rate Calculator, just click on your state & region, type in some realistic N prices and corn prices, then click CALCULATE. When it gives you an answer, notice in that information is included the number of respondents the Caculator used to make it's rec. It will probably be 200-500 respondents in somewhat of your area. Anyone can accurately report their findings to the U of IL or ISU or Purdue for these future recs. So, it's not just based on some mathematical computation, it's real world results.
It doesn't look like his applied rate was out of bounds. |
