Right or wrong, I had good luck last fall running almost a 45 degree angle to the rows to help get the lodged 30" beans in the head and it helped with the prevailing winds too. I would pick an angle that helped both for wind and lodging and it worked pretty well.

A slight 5-8 degree angle did not do much for helping the head pick up the lodged beans. A steeper angle did.
