We used to have everything with manual. Still have 1 car with a manual. Big problem is when you want to sell one it’s about worthless.
Depends on the make and model. Anything diesel from VW or Audi with a diesel engine and a manual transmission has a significant premium vs the automatic or DSG transmission. For a late model TDI with a 6MT the vehicle usually has a $1k-3k premium if it has a manual transmission. Don’t believe then look on any used car website/app and compare similar model year/miles/trim with the only difference being the transmission. The TDI with a manual will always have a premium.
Maybe it is not that way with all cars, but it is with these. I drive a 2015 Passat TDI SE with a 6MT as my daily driver. My overall average mileage for the last 100k miles is 44mpg. That is AVERAGE, not highway. It is not a little vehicle either like a Prius or bolt. It is a nice size highway cruiser. It is easy to do 55-60mpg on the interstate what doing long runs. I’m not sold one bit on electric being the savior or even “better” than ICE once bio/renewable fuels are in use.
Below picture is a 150miles or so from a Sunday. That is to church and then out shopping and just scooting around with family. The “trip” mileage is still on one tank of fuel. I usually get over 800miles on a single fill.
