So no numbers on expected life of solar panels? Solar was the topic. I think. Not sure why you bring up windmills when talking about life of solar panels.
We installed a 18 kW array almost 13 years ago. The first year, it was producing boiler plate +. Last year, it was still producing boiler plate +.
I have no experience with how panels "wear", or how the production degrades with time. If I'm still at 75% at 25 years, I'll be pretty happy.
Far as I know, every generation system, no matter what the fuel, degrades over time.
I also have a small array that I use to power security lighting at a self-storage facility. All self-funded, including batteries. Only reason any Government has any involvement in that array is that I'm depreciating the expenses at tax time. It's not a system that would supply a home, wasn't designed to do that nor was it planned to ever do that. It is extremely cost effective compared to the alternatives at that site.
With that said: count me as a fan of solar energy. I also feel that productive farmland is the very last place we should be installing them. Too many other options in my mind. But, I fortunately have the option of whether I lease land or not. And, what anyone decides to do with their own farm is entirely up to them.
