Subject: RE: It's bad enough the dealer doesn't want me to come back

Many years ago I had an 85 Chevy one ton dually pickup. Bought it used. Ran it hard, and fed cattle with it for a couple years. One day the auto tranny went out. Took it to a local shop and rebuilt the tranny. Didn't last two weeks. Local guy rebuilt the tranny a second time. Didn't last two weeks. He was a nice young guy who was trying to get his shop up and running financially, so I told him I didn't want to make him warranty it AGAIN. Hoped to save him some money by going elsewhere. He was glad.

Took tranny and Torque Converter to the "big city", to a well known--well advertised shop. Paid full price for another rebuild. Reinstalled tranny with new torque converter. Lasted maybe a year. (Turbo 400 tranny....usually pretty good). Shop says they'll warranty their work for 35000 miles. We're well below that, so I take entire truck to town. Tranny rebuilt. Lasted about 6 months. Shop boss informs me that warranty is only good for 12000 miles in FARM VEHICLES. We're still below that, so he fixes it again. informs me that I MUST be abusing the machine somehow, and he wouldn't warranty it again. Doesn't ever want to see that tranny again. Can't say that I blame him, although I don't think we're abusing the machine either.

Tranny soon went out again. Didn't rebuild it, Took it to another shop and exchanged entire unit for another entire rebuilt unit. Installed, and worked quite well until I traded the truck some years later. No more problems.

I've become convinced that there was some problem with the case of that unit which continued to cause problems with the rebuilds. Once the case was exchanged, problems were solved. But I won't be going back to the rebuilder #2, either. I suspect that he';s just as glad about it. lol showboat
