Sure they are a little heavier, but by his description I wasn't expecting him to be busting backcountry trails.
He also seemed worry about the longevity of the motors. I wouldn't be scared to buy a used 4stroke with 5000 miles on it. I wouldn't touch a 2stroke with more than 4000 miles on it.
I agree if buying new, the 600 2stroke is a good reliable option as well.
