Great Plains | I helped develop this product in the US about 20 years ago. Your explanation on how it works is correct except substitute the word “spore” for “sclerotia”. These are the overwintering stage which is small, black & looks like a rat turd (very technical explanation) LOL. Contans is clearly a useful tool. The biggest negative is the cost/acre. After we started development it took 5 years before the “experts” begin to include it in crop guides. Contans manufacturing date should be checked before purchase. Also should have cold storage to keep it viable.
Other option for WM I like are OxiDate 5 via ground or aircraft & what I like best is Sanidate12 via chemigation if one has a center pivot. The costs are low relative to other options. However, one must make the first application starting at R2-R3. A 2nd shot at R4 or R5 will pick up late season diseases like Frogeye, Septoria brown spot etc.
Attached West NE soybeans were chemigated twice with SaniDate 12. I believe 2 pints/ac about $8.00/ac. Clean as a whistle.
