West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | More often than not, the customer being denied service has MORE than earned the right for the business to not want to do business with them...no question.
Until you work in the customer service industry for a year or two you have no idea how bad a situation can really get, more often than not, through no fault of the business. We have a code phrase at our MN Deputy Registrar offices staff will use to alert other staff members they might have to call 911 if it appears a situation is escalating out of control and cannot be deescalated.
This law was passed as part of the MN transportation omnibus spending bill during the the 2023 MN legislative session. There was/is a need for this law...even in rural MN which is really sad.
Crime to Obstruct a DVS, Driver’s License Agent, or Deputy Registrar Employee Reference: Laws of Minnesota 2023, Regular Session, Chapter 68, HF2887, Article 5, Section 51
Effective: Aug. 1, 2023
Section 51 [Crime] makes it a crime for a person to intentionally use force or threat of force to obstruct an employee of the Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services Division, a
driver’s license agent, or a deputy registrar while the employee is performing official duties.
Some customers will absolutely lose their sanity at the flick of a switch when a customer service worker tells a customer something they do not want to hear. More often than not the situation was/is caused by the customer when the customer service worker is just doing their job working within the laws/rules/company policies the customer must abide by to help the customer with their self induced issue.
If you are a person that always seem have issues with the FSA office, the DMV, parts stores, the Walmart checkout, chances are it's not all those customer service people that are the asshole. We treat customers in the same manner we are treated. At our offices if the customer is "less then helpful"...so are we.
