Southeast Washington | If looking at new I would suggest going to your closest dealer your trust and ask them for suggestions to what your describe.
Now to think about. It sounds too me a fan cooled engine would work best. It is always helping cool the engine at low speeds. A liquid cooled engine needs to be moving and throwing snow on a heat exchanger to cool the engine so your must be moving. The taller the lug on the track the harder it is to cool the engine in marginal snow conditions and ice scratches are needed to kick up snow to help cool the track and to lubricate the slide rails to keep the track from melting the hyfax and sticking to the track.
I would think a lot of the engine issues come from buying mountain sleds and not riding them in their element. I had a nice crossover snowmobile I sold to a person that liked to backcountry ski. It was good for that but once he added pulling one or two people up the hill it worked the snowmobile harder and seized up from the extra work. Keep an eye on whatever you get but on flats I would think a fan cooked engine would work with about 1.25 inch lugs max in about a 136 inch length. You don't want too long of track for two riding but a little longer than a traditional 121 inch track would help pull kids and not get stuck as easy when off the beaten path.
Have fun and enjoy your winter adventure and your grandkids. Plan on buying more to ride when the grandkids get old enough to ride themselves and take them with you as you should never be out riding alone. | |
