east central MN | Around here bagger rent is usually cost of the bag (bag is $500 then bagger rent is $500). But as far as the chopper goes I think you need to charge by the real hour (not cutterhead time) for filling bags. Guys here that usually make a pile and bags or fill silo do that at the same time so you keep the bagger running and the extra loads go to the pile and everything keeps rolling.
Is there any way to have the customers who want bags plant later maturity corn so you can do all the pile customers first then piddle with the bags? I still think you need to charge for the down time while filling but then the next guy isn't tapping his foot impatiently waiting for you. Like suggested before there's always a bigger bagger but if you aren't doing enough to justify that it makes no sense for that investment. | |
