Round hole seems to work well.  It depends on the size of the cat.  6" hole will usually fit the biggest cat and keep out most coons.  If you really want to give the coons a hard time go down to 5"-4.5".   Most cats should fit if they want to.



This. It would be simple and easy to try.

Watched a video of training cats to see how small of hole they would go through. They started with a regular cat opening, then put smaller and smaller door holes in. Cats can really squeeze through a small opening if they want the treats on the other side!
