SE MI
My dad passed away in the pig barn in 89. I was going to MSU at the time and was hoping to come home and farm with him. I quit college and came home to farm with my brother. Dad had 168 acres that he owned. My brother and I split up in 2009, but between the two of us we own over 1600 acres. Im sure my dad would be proud of what we have accomplished. Love reading about each and every farmers life with dad or no dad. My Grandpa held on for several more years until he was 87. I think he would have made it much longer if he would not have got hit in the head by a split rim truch tire about 10 years before that. He rode his bicycle up from his dad's farm near Toledo Ohio in 1930, where they also had a taxi service and milk delivery with Jack and Jim, their trusty jackasses. Grandpa worked for Henry Ford as a share cropper and bought 180 acres of his own. Grandpa kind of decided when he couldn't drive tractor any longer and would sit at the end of the field waiting for the minute we needed parts or a ride to move equipment. He only lived a mile from the home farm and instead of driving the car would run his Honda 110 with big windshield down to the farm most mornings. Delivering his gladds(flowers) to my brothers wife and mine.
