Subject: Just got back from experience of a lifetime for me

As much as I love the great outdoors, fishing and hunting, I’d managed to let life get in the way of making a trip out west for big game. About 5 years ago had a friend invite me along as part of a 4 man group going into the Bridger-Teton Wilderness area with Triangle X Ranch as the outfitter, based out of Moose, Wyoming. Went out a couple days early so buddy could spend some time with his mom who has the most incredible place to live I’ve ever seen, at the base of the Grand Tetons about 10 miles from Jackson, Wy. This is the most valuable real estate in America, where a good view of the Tetons will command multiple millions per acre for a building lot. Hung around Jackson for a day seeing the sights and sounds, quite the town. Then off to the ranch for the start of a 10 day horseback hunt in the Wilderness, base camp about 5 miles from Yellowstone park boundary. The Turner family has been running Triangle X Ranch for 5 generations now, truly an amazing operation. It took 4 years of putting in for preference points before our group finally drew our tags, it ain’t easy for a non resident to draw, and that’s just fine by me. I never saw another hunter the whole time, did hear a few shots off in the distance. I realize now at 63 years old how physically demanding a trip like this is, and will be immediately starting the process of the draw one more time, knowing full well that will be my last chance to ever experience a trip like that again because of the physical limitations, and I’m in pretty darn good shape for my age.My partner and I’s elk required a quick dismount from our horses, followed by a brisk scramble up the mountain on foot to get in position to attempt to call in bugling bulls high above us. Something I’ll never forget. My whole point of this post is if you’ve ever dreamed of an adventure like this, don’t put it off, get it done while you still can. Lord willing, my next trip will be with my 2 sons and oldest grandson, accepting the fact that will have to be my last time seeing the most magnificent views on planet earth, surrounded by screaming bull elk and roaming grizzly bears and packs of wolves. Till next time….
