Subject: RE: this^^^^^^^

I suspect that at least part of our perception that batteries aren’t made as good anymore is due to the fact that over the years we have been replacing older equipment with newer equipment that tend to have computers that are causing small parasitic battery drains even when it isn’t in use. If a person pays attention there isn’t much equipment these days that don’t have small sparks when connecting up batteries. Those sparks mean that something somewhere in the system is using power. Those small battery maintainers are likely a necessity today because of the parasitic drains more so than the quality of the batteries.

Having said that there will be differences in the quality of batteries also and I’m sure you get what you pay for at the extreme ends. Also, in my younger days I would go for the highest cranking amp rated batteries thinking they had to be the better quality batteries. These days I leave those high amp batteries on the shelf in favour of lower cranking amps because they tend to have less but heavier constructed and more durable plates that are farther away from each other and not as prone to internal damage.
