Just go lp or natty gas. Did the whole fireplace then pellet stove thing back when money was nonexistent here. At the end of the day 1lb of lpg=21,500btu, 1lb corn =5,300btu. You can price out each in your area and do the math. A vented insert is my personal preference if you really like the aesthetic effect of a fire/fireplace. They’re pretty inline pricewise with a pellet stove and you don’t have a firebox to clean out. If you do go the corn burning route just keep in mind it’s a food source and mice will try entering your home to get it.
