Subject: RE: Droughtguard corn thoughts

Jackson County, AL

DK6520 is a drought guard hybrid we planted since at least 2015 until last year.  2016 and 2022 had lots of zeros in "hot spots" in the field where it did not pollinate under dry and hot conditions.  It was the only drought guard and the worst hybrid for zero pollination in areas.  Hills or flats didn't matter, no rhyme or reason to it at all and we had 200 bags of it.  In other years it seemed to shine if it turned dry during grain fill, and routinely beat other varieties, but we just couldn't risk another year with it.  This would have been another good year for it most likely but we found DK6599 last year and it has rewarded us very well.  It won our plot along with at least one other county plot last year and in better conditions this year has shown it can be a top yielder in an above average year also.  We never know when a drought is coming and doing without rain at least 2 weeks during the growing is a fact of life 8 out of 10 years here.  We need a corn hybrid that can go anywhere and do it all.
