Corn and pellet stoves are halfway between a gas furnace and a wood burner. You have to load them, but not keep the fire going by loading as often and controlling the heat. They're a little more efficient than wood so maybe half the weight of corn vs wood in a typical wood stove. A lot closer for a very efficient wood stove.
