I still wonder what the motivation to pay this much is? Is it just spending because you have it? Unless the buyer is counting on an early 2000's housing style market where people just keep paying more, I don't see it as a great investment. You can get 5% at a bank. Based on my short 30 yrs of farming, I can see that trees do not grow to the sky and never will. Of course, I don't get out much so maybe they do now?


As I recall, the sale bill said that the ground had been in the same family for four generations.
So think about it. Your dear Dad, rest his soul, had always admired that field across the road. He said several times that he wished he had had a chance to buy that someday. And now it finally comes up on auction, fifteen years after you laid him to rest in the family plot across from Grandma and Grandpa.
You’ve done well with the family farm. There’s plenty of money in the farm accounts, and who knows how long it’ll be worth anything?
You’re not going to bid every spare dollar to get that field for your dad and your son?

Have you met many fourth generation farmers?
