If one wants a piece of ground, he has to pay -

Pay what the seller asks, or
In case of an auction,
Pay more then any one else.

Then everyone can talk about how crazy you are.

I was fortunate enough to buy several pieces of
Dirt in my career.

My 1st farm was a cheep ole hill farm no one else
In the area wanted.

I bought it on a contract as that was all I could afford.
One of the older cocky tenant farmers in the neighborhood
Came up to me and asked me why I bought -

"Those ole pinnacles".

I wanted a farm and --
That was all I could afford!!!

Then later that fall He wanted to custom combine my beans.

He never did buy a farm, but always talked about
Those that did.

I never condemn those that pay the last bid.

BTW, I survived the '80's.
