We are in big trouble down the road when more want to retire. The average retirement savings is nowhere near it needs to be so people can retire. What happens when these people who just didn't have the money or simply didn't save are going to no longer be able to work? Who pays for that?
Unfortunately we know who pays for that....
Retirement has become a right to older people as a cell phone has become a right to a 14 year old. Who ever said it was a right to retire? It is a privelidge if you have managed things correctly. Personally I don't plan on retiring in the sense of the American dream. I'll just do less and give up more and more responsibility, but I will still be working for someone and probably without compensation many times. We have gotten away from teaching personal responsibility. You give up things when you are young to live a good life when you are old. Most don't understand that. A few years of socking away the money that you blow when you are young or even middle aged adds up big to sustain you when you are old, but people are too selfish or ignorant to understand that. And by ignorant, I mean either not taught or taught the wrong things. |
