West Central Missouri | Beans on the ground, filled pods on the ground, cut-off plants on the ground, and split pods on standing plants all count in a harvest-ready and near-harvest hail loss estimates. Split pods won't all be obvious right away, until it dries. Had hail on harvest-ready beans a number of years ago -- my hail loss adjuster came up with a loss in mid-teens, different company on neighboring field (not mine) came up with just over 50% loss, I called my insurance company to come back and do mine again -- adjuster came back with supervisor and settled on about 40% the second time around. Harvested mine as soon as I could after 2nd adjuster visit, the 40% loss was probably a little high, but actual harvested loss was more than double their original estimate -- I was able to pick up many of the breakovers, plus harvesting right away recovers some of the split-pod losses that didn't pop out yet (if they don't all shatter out when the reel or cutter bar hits them). | |
