Varies a lot as mentioned. Testing your own hay is the only way to know. I have some carry over barley hay that lost 10% of its protein and RFV sitting outside for one year in rows. A tight bale with net wrap will loose the least. I’ve seen loose twine bales that look horrible in just a few months, year old they are basically bedding material.

You need to put up dry hay, would rather put up 10-12% hay then 18+.
