Fairfield, Mt | NWS radar is a joke here in NC Mt. With the Rockies to my west they get some reverberations off the mountains. Plus I have a 19 tower wind farm a mile north of me that registers .3" daily when they are turning full speed. I record on cocorahs daily using their official rain gauge at 7AM for my records. Never match radar generated rain measurements.
Has been a contention of mine with the local weather folks as they produce the drought monitor measurements weekly. With crop insurance and the USDA relying on the drought monitor maps to recognize and report disaster declarations, we need to have ground truthed accurate measurements. NWS radar does not cut the mustard.
