While I agree with you, I think the draconian will come in the form of electrons. They desperately want to be rid of the ICE and fossil fuels. Renewable isn't any better from their standpoint.

That may be true for ground vehicles. The big renewable oil push will be for sustainable aviation fuel. To put a battery in a plane is a long ways off, probably NEVER. There are huge safety issues, etc. etc. But there is one calculation people may not think about. A liquid fuel plane gets lighter as it flies, and then burns less fuel. A battery weighs the same dead or charged, so the plane is burning a lot more energy than comparable AV fuel. And a given model of plane is going to have a given size battery whether the route is short today, or long, non-stop or direct, etc. Different than liquid fuel. There is a reason they occasionally top off the fuel after loading. It's a huge profit incentive to figuratively land on fumes ( of course, there is a safety margin involved.)
