IMHO, hay is a different beast than grains. Whether it's put up at 16% or 12% moisture (ss bales), if kept in a dry place with some ventilation during the 'sweat' period, the storage time will not matter. My understanding is that some vitamins are reduced (lost) during extended storage (greater than 2 years). IIRC vitamin A is the biggest loser. I also believe that the 16% moisture hay will lose some of that moisture over time. This information is based on HERE, so YMMV.
