Rate depends on your ground. What do you have currently for Sulfur levels on tests. How much OM do you have? What are your yield goals? I've got guys running anywhere from 50lbs ahead of beans, 100lbs on heavier soils with 6% OM or better, and 160lbs on tighter clay ground that has high Mg. We use SO4 from Calcium products in Ft Dodge, waaaaay better product than any gypsum I have used previously.
I try to stay away from AMS unless it is going on topdress with Urea, it leaches quickly and it acidifies soil more than anything else. Lime costs enough as it is without using a product that makes it worse.
If you need a pile of sulfur it might be best to run both elemental and gypsum, unless you need Ca in your ground. I typically shoot for 40-50lbs ahead of corn, I've got a few guys experimenting with 80lbs, but this is on 280-315bu corn ground.
