Northwest Iowa | Given it's your grandpa's/families ground, you could start the first year with half the acres and add more the next couple years. Given what you want to plant a grain drill that can notill would be a good start. There's a lot of older tractors that are able to pull one of decent size with out breaking the bank, doesn't have to be glamours, just get the job done. Really you need to sit down and talk to your Grandpa/family if there willing to rent, don't know where you are from but it's probably already rented for next year. Second go talk to the bank or since your young, farm credit. Figure out cost of operations to hire spraying and harvest along with some other numbers you can scrounge up that are realistic. If it can't work in and average year with an average yield it will never work. What you're asking to do can be done. Just need to figure a few things out and put pen to paper. Might be a year before you actually get to farm it. But that is okay you have a job and if this is something you want to do you will figure it out. Good luck | |
