 Floyd County, Iowa | Depends on whether you have actual fence in those fence lines. If so, pulling them is out of the question, IMO. Neighbor did that and pulled out half the fence in the process.
If you kill them now and wait for them to die in place, when you eventually drag them off, you'll be scattering dead limbs/branches all over.
What worked best "here" was to go cut them down, drag the tree off, and treat the stumps with either Tordon RTU or straight glyphosate. The stumps eventually rot, and the fence is left intact.
