Do you know for sure that it's related to additional moisture late season? We're seeing the beans stay greener where there was rye too, but think it might be related to later emergence. The beans in rye were really slow this spring, I suspect due to lack of moisture in the top few inches from the rye. It seems like that has shifted their whole season a little later than normal.
There are other fields with no rye where we saw really uneven emergence - the beans that emerged are turning, while the ones that sat and waited for a rain are still dark green. Tom i am not sure right now if the extra moisture is the main reason for the greener plants, but think it is part of the reason. Your thoughts on later emergence has some merit. If i come up with something i will report back. |
