Sort of my thoughts as well. Hauling a fuel container that's more than 119 gallons opens up a whole bunch of requirements with the DOT. It's one of those things that's great until you get caught by the wrong inspector.

I was wondering that as well. I freaked out local tile guy in 2003? He had 500 gallon tank on one flatbed. “Did you do required background check on every employee? *that was a requirement at that time. No idea if still true*
I suggest you CYA. First stick on placards are cheap. 2nd strapping it down is a good idea. 200 gallons +1800 lbs with tank, pump, hose? Two 3333 working limit straps would be overkill. But even at todays $20 each dirt cheaper than ticket. But even 800 lb working load likely be ok. (If DOT realized most hook points won’t hold even that)
As forklift pockets not touching tank. A lite chain could be welded with lite binder in truck bed to properly built attachment point?
1/4” grade 70 well over 3000 lbs IIRC? I see 16’ 2 hooks $30. Run thru fork lift holes. (If you don’t weld). Some of us use visible stuff to keep DOT from looking. A gold chain even if not holding much looks good. |
