NW Iowa | I have one. The doc claims I have both obstructive and central apnea, pretty rare he claims. Obstructive is when you gasp and snore, central is when you stop breathing until the wife pokes you in the ribs. I strap on the mask at night and go to bed, it’s as easy as that for me. Maybe I got lucky the first time over. When I got the machine I told myself I WILL get used to it and I did adapt.
A couple of my friends got CPAP machines that blew so hard their cheeks puffed out, not good. One of them had a second sleep study and as a result the machine was reprogrammed to work the way it should. The other person gave up on a CPAP and now is on an oxygen device of some sort. The first friend got a used machine that had formerly been used by a smoker. The residual smell in the machine was not bearable so she exchanged it. Other people I know of haven’t had any problems once they got used to it. | |
