Took me a minute to realize u doing ARG. I’ve always done Cereal Rye. Why do u say scary to kill? I would love only doing 5#.

Logistically it would be awesome, cover 200+ acres a fill.

Have you tried cereal rye instead of arg? I have heard arg sometimes doesn’t want to die when sprayed, the trade off for an impressive root system.

I think we've tried everything ---cereal rye a couple years 20 years back second year we used cereal rye it got away from us we didn't know about planting green (may have worked???) ground turned "sour" when we killed it 5' tall and rained "forever" no more cereal rye
(we had swore off ARG probably right before the cereal rye episode)
Had a very hard time killing the ARG BUT that was 25 years ago---Have to do spraying by the ARG spraying rules to kill ARG
used bin run 25# Soft red wheat for a bunch of years --didn't think we were getting enough deep roots
SO last 2- 3 years annual rye grass with help from NAT (thanks Terry Taylor and other NAT members) we decided we would try planting and killing ARG again "success"
we will seed every acre to ARG this fall weather permitting flat ground and all (we started CC for the erosion protection)
for us it's just easier to do all the same and I think our ground is getting "better" from the CC AND like $5 an acre seed cost :-)
"clear as mud?"

Dan

to add we're in SW Indiana and it's Sept 18 --Think same latitude as Louisville KY "makes a difference"
