tiling causing Iowa wells to dry up

As far as crops go, Iowa does better when dryer. Better planting, more timely agronomy (sidedress fert, spraying), no lazy roots, less disease etc. If we average 40 inches of rain and hit 28-32 inches, pretty good chance at a bumper. Even at as little as 20 inches, if timed right, great crops. But that isn't the case this year. We are at 16, and only 9 in-season inches.

As far as ecosystem and water levels, we are way low. Water table very low, rivers are ankle deep. I bet the fish are struggling. Ponds are growing grass.
