Crustbuster has the narrowest seed double discs/ trench on the market. The problem is the notched blade is extremely poor at cutting residue. 70% of the notch blade is dull concave surface. It is on the unit only for fresh tilled ground to keep the blades turning in low downpressure requirements. Try a unit or two with a smooth leading blade. Also I flip my blades from side to side as the leader is more dull and the trailing blade is razor sharp. Run old blades as long as possible, down to 14 3/4 inches. Old blades cut much better than new blades in fresh harvested stalks. Good luck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Pq-f35Ev8g&t=11s
