Malta, Illinois
From planting until now we have had 16" of "official rain" since planting. It breaks down as follows. April .75", May 4.2", June 1.45", July 5.25", August 1.80", and September 2.55". These are Climate totals so they are somewhat to be taken with a grain of salt but give an overall portrayal of what went on. I found them to be reasonably close this year on most rain events. Here is the kicker, June, July, and August had 10 of those events that were .15" or under. They must have done some good is all I can say because the crop really looks pretty good. We started with very little subsoil moisture so this crop whatever it is got raised on about 15 inches or rain that were timed almost perfectly. The corn will be good but It think August and September were too warm and too dry for a bean crop that had the potential to be a record breaker.
