If the beans are loose from the pod walls they are ready to desiccate is what we've gone by.  We had to even up several acres last year.  Really makes for some nice cutting with nothing green anywhere.  We used Paraquat but I can't remember the PHI.  Sharpen seems to leave more green stems from what we've been told.
