Wisconsin | Lemons are sub tropical and they can take a remarkable amount of light frosts, they're not delicate. Even a hard frost will kill the blooms and sometimes leaves, but they'll come back.
If you don't want to dig the stumps, cut them flush and plant another tree a couple feet away, then cover with mulch and forget about them, or even cover with a few inches of dirt and seed it to grass. It will rot and sink eventually, but even if you grind it or dig out and fill, you usually won't get it compacted enough to avoid settling. | |
