I custom haul a fair amount of calves and load with slider or the whole opening depending on the farm. I prefer the slider hands down but either will work. I always gate the calves but my trailer is 38’ most of the guys here pulling a 24’ don’t. The back gate in my trailer is on the roadside so you can swing it as your walking in the trailer. It really helps keep the wild ones off of you.
